Nigeria defender Joseph Yobo could miss the start of the English Premier League season for his club side Everton due to injury.

Yobo was plagued by an ankle injury during the Super Eagles' 2010 World Cup qualifiers this month.

The Toffees kick off their Premier League campaign on 16 August with a home game against Blackburn.

"I've had an ankle injury for a while," said 27-year-old Yobo, who is now on an extended break.

"I was supposed to rest it but we had crucial games to play and were short at the back so I just had to force myself to play."

Yobo scored for Nigeria in their 1-0 wins over Sierra Leone and Equatorial Guinea in the 2010 World Cup qualifiers.
