Cooreman was handed the ban for slapping a referee

Enyimba coach Maurice Cooreman will sit out the remainder of the Nigeria league season after being handed a five-match ban.

Cooreman was banned by the Nigeria Football League (NFL)'s disciplinary committee for slapping a referee last month.

With only five matches remaining for the season, the Belgian will have to watch his side from the stands for the rest of the term.

According the (NFL)'s disciplinary committee the coach was banned for "brazen physical attack on a referee."

Cooreman was found guilty of the assault which came after his club Enyimba were beaten 2-0 by Lobi Stars on 26 March.

The coach, who helped the club win last season's title, has apologised for his actions.
