Tanzania will play Uganda in the first round next month
Tanzania beat Kenya 2-0 in Dar-es-Salaam on Saturday to qualify for the first round of the African Nations Championship.
The home side progressed on a 2-1 aggregate after losing the first leg of the preliminary tie in Nairobi last month.
Second-half substitute Jerry Tegete broke the deadlock on 76 minutes before and Nadir Haroub's stoppage time strike sealed victory for the Taifa Stars.
Tanzania will play Uganda in the first round of the Central East zone of the competition next month.
"The game against Uganda will be tough, Uganda is up in Fifa rankings so we need to prepare with a good strategy," Tanzania coach Marcio Maximo said.
Uganda thrashed Eritrea 3-0 in their preliminary round, second-leg match in Kampala on Friday to qualify on a 5-3 aggregate.
Stephen Bengo scored just before half-time before Geoffrey Sserunkuma doubled the lead on 69 minutes.
Dam Wagaluka then netted an own-goal in the dying minutes to seal the win for Uganda.
In the Central zone Zambia beat Swaziland 3-0 to progress through to the first round where they will now face Botswana.
On Sunday Burundi drew 0-0 with Rwanda , ensuring Rwanda progessed with a 1-0 aggrgate win.
In the North zone Libya beat Tunisia on penalties after 180 minutes of football ended with a 2-2 aggregate draw.
Libya will now face Egypt in the first round proper.
In West A zone Mauritania drew 0-0 withGambia to progress on away goals, Guinea await in the first round, while Niger lost 2-0 to Ghana in West B zone.
A brace from Owusu Banahene gave a 4-0 aggreagte win overall, Ghana will now clash with Togo in the first round.
In the Central zone Gabon played Central African Republic, while in the Southern zone Mozambique secured a 1-0 victory over Malawi.
The away-goals-rule means Mozambique progress to the first round after winning their first international game played outside of Maputo.
