Former Zimbabwe coach Sunday Chidzambwa, previously known as Sunday Marimo, has returned to the Warriors.
Chidzambwa led the team to their first-ever appearance at the Nations Cup finals, in Tunisia in 2004.
Following a failed campaign for the 2008 tournament, Zifa have announced the dissolution of the senior national team and have set up an experimental pool of coaches.
Chidzambwa will take Zimbabwe to Singapore next week for two warm-up matches ahead of an invitational tournament in Malaysia.
Former captain Norman Mapeza will be caretaker coach for Zimbabwe's Nations Cup qualifier against Malawi next month, assisted by Marc Duvillard, who was in charge of the team in 1996.
Another former skipper, Moses Chunga, has been given duties with the under-23 team.
Several other coaches have also been included in the plan.
"We believe that we should first get all the experienced coaches we can get to lay the platform for a new national team,'' said Zifa chairman Wellington Nyatanga.
A substantive Warriors coach will be be named in December, as a replacement to Charles Mhlauri, who was fired in June.
There is a possibility of a foreign coach being hired, as Zifa have sought government assistance to hire an expatriate.
