Passions boiled over on the final day of the Burkina Faso league season as Club Football Ouagadougou (CFO) were crowned champions for the first time.
CFO clinched the title thanks to a 2-1 victory over Santos, which denied Etoile Filante Ouagadougou the championship by a single point.
Irate fans and officials invaded the pitch and injured international referee Lassina Pare during the decisive game between CFO and Santos.
The incident occurred in the closing stages of the game after Pare ignored calls for a penalty in favour of Santos.
The game was halted for 15 minutes during which security forces restored order and Pare received treatment for a cut above his left eye.
The referee was able to continue and finish the final minutes of the match.
