World Cup finalists Angola failed to beat Tanzania

Tanzania forced World Cup finalists Angola to a 1-1 draw in an international friendly in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.

The hosts opened the scoring in the 27th minute thanks to a strike by Gaudence Mwaikimba.

Angola, who came into the match with their World Cup stars Figueiredo and Lebo-Lebo, rallied and grabbed the equaliser with only seven minutes remaining.

Mateus capitalized on defensive mix-up to slot past the advancing Tanzania keeper Juma Kaseja.

Taifa Stars coach Marcio Maximo was furious with his players for conceding a late goal.

"We played very well and we deserved to win, but silly mistakes of two defenders cost us," the Brazilian lamented.

Angola coach Luis Oliveira Goncalves was surprised by the standard of Tanzania players.

"We did not expect Tanzanians would play this good game, they were very good and we were under pressure most of the time," he said.

The match was originally scheduled to be played on Wednesday but was postponed after Angola failed to turn up due to flight problems.

Meanwhile, the Tanzania FA has confirmed that a friendly match has been lined up with South Africa on 9 December in Dar es Salaam to commemorate the country's 45th independence anniversary.
