Ghana beat Japan 1-0 in an international friendly in Yokohama on Wednesday.
Substitute Haminu Dramani scored after 73 minutes in new Ghana coach Claude LeRoy's first match in charge.
The midfielder converted a fine cross from Razak Pimpong, who raced deep into the Japanese goal area before finding Dramani six yards out.
The match was an important test for the Black Stars who have no competitive match until January 2008, when the country hosts the African Cup of Nations finals.
A crowd of 52,437 attended a match held in the venue for the 2002 World Cup final.
The Black Stars, who lifted a giant trophy after the match, move on to play South Korea in another friendly on 8 October.
