Frenchman Claude Leroy has signed a two-year contract to coach the national team of Ghana.
The 58-year-old becomes the 36th coach of the Black Stars after completing the deal on Thursday.
He succeeds the Serbian Ratomir Dujkovic, who resigned after leading the West African country to the second round of the World Cup in July.
Leroy, who has a good coaching experience in Africa, is tasked with guiding Ghana to their hosting of the African Nations Cup in 2008.
In 1988, he led a Cameroon side, including the likes of Roger Milla, to the Nations Cup title at the tournament played in Morocco, where they beat Nigeria in the final.
The Frenchman was also Cameroon's coach 20 years ago when they reached the deciding match at the 1986 Nations Cup finals in Egypt but lost to the hosts on post-match penalties.
In 1992 Le Roy coached hosts Senegal to a quarter-final place and this year took charge of the Democratic Republic of Congo's team, which also reached the last eight.
