Wome's penalty miss handed Ivory Coast their first World Cup appearance

Werder Bremen defender Pierre Wome has been recalled to the Cameroon national team after a one-year absence.

Wome has not been invited since missing a stoppage-time penalty against Egypt that ruled Cameroon out of the 2006 World Cup.

Coach Arie Haan included the Germany-based player in his 20-man squad for their Nations Cup qualifier against Equatorial Guinea on 7 October in Yaounde.

Wome's recent good showing for Werder Bremen seems to have impressed the coach.

Haan handed a first national team call-up to Jacques Elong Elong who plays for the Iranian side Persepolis.

Persepolis is the last club the Dutchman managed before joining the Indomitable Lions in August.

Three players were dropped from the squad that beat Rwanda 3-0 in the first Group Five qualifier earlier this month.

The England-based duo of Roudolphe Douala and Andre Bikey were left out as well as Saidou Alioum of the French side Nantes.
