Merdassi header stuns Al Ahly

Al Ahly were beaten in Africa for the first time since July 2004
Defending champions Al Ahly were beaten on African soil for the first time in more than two years at the start of the African Champions League on Saturday.

A first-half header from CS Sfaxien defender Issam Merdassi gave the Tunisian side a 1-0 win against their Egyptian rivals in Group A.

It was the first loss for Al Ahly in continental and domestic competition since July 2004.

Algeria's JS Kabylie host Asante Kotoko of Ghana in Algiers on Sunday in the second Group A match.

Enyimba of Nigeria travel to Hearts of Oak of Ghana on Sunday in Group B.

South Africa's Orlando Pirates meet ASEC Abidjan of the Ivory Coast in Johannesburg on Tuesday.

Pirates were allowed to postpone their game because they play Manchester United in a friendly in Durban on Saturday.
