Algeria prepare for Nations Cup

Mehdi Meniri is in the squad despite having no current club

Algeria coach Jean Michel Cavalli has called up five uncapped players to join a 28-man squad preparing for next month's 2008 Nations Cup qualifying campaign.

France-based trio Mehdi Sennaoui, Yacine Hima and Khaled Kharroubi have been selected by the French coach.

Cavalli also called up Rafik Djebbour, a little-known player based in Greece, while there was also a place for Germany-based Chadli Amri.

Meanwhile, Ali Boulebda returns to the side after a six-year absence.

The squad was announced to prepare for the camping ahead of the Nations Cup qualifier against Guinea on 3 September in Conakry.

Before then however, the Desert Foxes will play two friendlies.

After assembling for a four-day training camp in France from Saturday 12 August, the Algerians will play local second division side Istres at Aix-les-Bains on Monday.

24 hours later, Cavalli's charges face Gabon in Aix en Provence.

Nineteen foreign-based players are included in the side, while players of JS Kabylie will miss the start of the camping due to club commitments.
