Nigerian players get compensation
Wilson Oruma
Oruma is said to have lost US$6,000

Nigerian players Wilson Oruma and Dele Aiyenugba, who had money stolen from their hotel rooms in Alexandria, have been compensated by the country's football association.

Oruma of Olympique Marseille lost US$6,000 while goalkeeper Aiyenugba, who plays for Nigerian club Enyimba, was missing US$2,500 dollars.

The money went missing hours after the Super Eagles lost by a lone goal in the semi-finals of the African Cup of Nations to the Ivory Coast in Alexandria.

Sports minister Samaila Sambawa made the presentation to the players when he visited the team late Wednesday at their hotel here.

"I really appreciate the kind gesture of the officials," said Oruma, who stayed away from training after the theft.

Other players reported mobile phone sets and other personal belongings being taken.
