Midfielder Freddy Adu has been invited to join the USA's training camp, ahead of next year's World Cup finals.
Ghana has offered Adu a World Cup place
Adu, who was born in Ghana, is amongst the 30 players expected to train at the National Training Centre in Carson, California from 4 January.
The USA have a series of friendlies in January and February, which will help national coach Bruce Arena in picking a 23-man squad for next summer's tournament in Germany.
Should the 16-year-old make his debut for the USA, it will end Ghana's hopes of persuading the DC United forward to wear their colours at the World Cup.
Ghana coach Ratomir Dujkovic had stated he would offer Adu a place in Ghana's squad.
An acceptance of that offer could have seen the teenager playing against his adopted homeland in Germany, as both teams are in group E.
