Betsy turns Seychelles down
Betsy has two games for Oldham this weekend

Kevin Betsy has turned down a request to play international football for Seychelles.

Betsy, who plays for lower English division side Oldham Athletic, was needed for this weekend's Cosafa Cup mini-tournament in Mauritius.

The country will be making their debut in the annual Southern African championship and play South Africa in the first of two semi-final matches at Curepipe's New George V stadium on Saturday.

Seychelles' Football Federation president, Suketu Patel, has made several attempts to get the 26-year-old to play for the country.

He recently telephoned Betsy's father in Britain about the possibly of persuading him to wear the country's colours.

Betsy, who said he might be keen to take up an international career in the future, has to feature in two away games for Oldham this week.

Oldham, in the bottom half of England's League One, play Bristol Rovers on Wednesday and Huddersfield on Saturday.

Seychelles, who have brought back youngsters Wilnus Brutus and Jonathan Bibi from trials at Cremonese in Italy in order to feature in the regional competition, hope to shock a makeshift South African side in Saturday's opening match.

Hosts Mauritius play Madagascar on the same day and the two winners meet on Sunday to decide the mini-tournament winner.
