Rajesh Gunesh has been sacked as coach of Mauritius.

Gunesh, who has been in charge for over one and a half years, said he is shocked by the decision of the Mauritius FA to dismiss him from his post.

"I'm wondering why I have been sacked. A great injustice has been done to me," Gunesh claimed.

Gunesh was appointed coach in December 2003 along with Elvis Antoine.

Antoine emigrated to Canada in February, leaving Gunesh in sole charge.

He led the national team in friendlies against English Premiership team Tottenham Hotspur and Spanish side Espanyol in June.

But Club M, as the national team is popularly known, lost 2-0 and 3-2 respectively.

Vinod Persenoo, president of the Mauritius FA, said the decision to remove Gunesh had nothing to do with the two defeats.

Persenoo said that the association wants to reinvigorate the game in the island nation.

"As we are the Indian Ocean champion team, we aim at keeping our title at the next games in 2007."
