Utaka joins Rennes
Nigeria striker John Utaka in action for Lens
Nigeria striker John Utaka has joined French club Rennes.
Nigeria striker John Utaka has signed for French first division club Rennes from Lens.

The Super Eagles striker has signed a four year deal and is expected to spearhead the Rennes attack alongside Swiss star Alexander Frei, the league's leading scorer last season.

The 23-year Utaka replaces Toifilou Maoulida who was bought by Monaco.

Rennes did not disclose the transfer fee for the Nigerian who scored 12 goals in the league last season.

Rennes, who finished fourth in the league, have qualified for the Uefa Cup next season for their first foray into Europe.

There is speculation that the Ivory Coast's Aruna Dindane, who is out of contract at Belgian club Anderlecht, could join Lens as Utaka's replacement.
