Sayon takes charge until March 2005

Liberia Football Association has appointed Joseph Sayon as caretaker coach for the national team until March 2005.

He was the assistant to former manager Kadala Kromah who resigned after his home and car were vandalized by fans on 10 October.

The fans rampage took place after Liberia was beaten by Senegal in a 2006 World Cup and African Cup of Nations qualifier in Monrovia.

Sayon, a former Liberia midfielder during the 1970's, says he intends to handle his responsibilities with an open mind.

"All of the older and experience players overseas will be given a chance on my squad.

"We should have had a mixture of youth and experience, especially at this level of international football," Sayon told BBC Sport in Monrovia."

"I intend to talk with Kelvin Sebwe, Oliver Makor, Prince Daye and Zizi Roberts.

"They need to bury the hatchet and play for their country" Sayon said.

Liberia meet Senegal again in Dakar when the qualifiers resume in March 2005 and Sayon is keen to start preparations.

"The holidays are next month and I'll hope we can get the support to begin preparing when most of these players overseas will be on vacation."
