Ethiopia will host the East and Central Africa Senior Challenge Cup in December.
The decision was taken at the general assembly of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (Cecafa) held in Nairobi on Sunday.
Cecafa secretary Nicholas Musonye said the proposed home-and-away format, which was meant to cut down the huge expenditure incurred by the hosting nation, would not be used this year.
Cecafa's decision not to implement the format was influenced by the decision of Mohammed Hussein Al Amu, an Ethiopian millionaire, to sponsor the tournament for the next three years.
"The new sponsor will inject US$500,000 every year, starting in December," said Cecafa president Denis Obua.
Obua also told BBC Sport that the cup will be renamed after the new sponsor.
The club championship is already being bankrolled by the Rwandan
president Paul Kagame.
