Walsall trial Kitamirike
Ugandan-born Joel Kitamirike in action for Chelsea
Ugandan-born Joel Kitamirike is on trial with Walsall
Walsall have taken former Chelsea defender Joel Kitamirike on trial.

The 20-year-old left Stamford Bridge at the end of last season and after a spell in Holland with Willem II is now trying to earn a contract at Walsall.

"I am now at Walsall. I'll be training with them over the next few days and will then play in a match next week," Kitamirike told his personal website.

"If I can impress the manager hopefully he will offer me a permanent deal."

The Ugandan spent eight months on loan at Brentford last season, making 25 appearances for the Bees.

In June, Kitamirike travelled back to Uganda hoping to play for Uganda in their first 2006 World Cup qualifier against the DR Congo but because he is a British citizen could not be granted a Ugandan passport because the east African country does not allow dual nationality.
