Ghanaian international Michael Essien has joined French side Paris Saint-Germain in a four-year deal worth $6 million.
Essien plays Bastia in next season's opening match
Essien had been linked to French champions Olympique Lyon and English Premiership side Everton.
20-year old Essien is regarded as one of the best young players in the French top flight, after a brilliant season with Bastia.
He scored six goals in 29 matches from his deep midfield position.
But Essien has a poor disciplinary record. He recieved thirteen yellow cards and one red card last season.
Essien joined Bastia from Ghanaian side Liberty Professionals in July 2000, after emerging from the Ghanaian team at the 1999 Under-17 World Cup finals in New Zealand.
He was also a member of the Ghana squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 2002 Nations Cup.
But he has not played for Ghana in two years, due to injuries and club commitments.
Essien will open the French season for PSG against his former club.
