Togo 5-2 Cape Verde
Cape Verde twice came back from a goal down but still could not prevent being on the end of a crushing defeat against Togo in Group 5.
As early as the second minute Togo were ahead, thanks to Faria Allesandro's powerful kick from 10 yards out.
But the islanders - who unexpectedly led the group at one stage - equalised through Claudio Zebito's 18th minute effort.
Parity was maintained for barely five minutes, however, before the Hawks went into the lead again, this time through Scotland-based Maman Toure Sherrif's 23rd minute strike.
Again Cape Verde came back at them - even quicker than before - as Carlos Morai pounced on 27 minutes to make it 2-2.
But Togo scored again through a Sherrif penalty on 32 minutes, the result of a foul during a goalmouth scramble - and this time they would not be caught.
They went on to dominate the rest of the match.
Paulo de Souza got the Hawks' fourth, spinning the ball in from the right flank on 72 minutes.
And Metz's Emmanual Sheyi wrapped things up four minutes later with a glancing header.
