Gillet signs Malawi deal
Malawi's national team
Malawi recently had a tour of England
Malawi's football chiefs have confirmed that Allan Gillet will be in charge of the national team for four months.

Gillet has been put on a monthly salary of 4,000 (about $6,400) per month.

It will be paid by the Malawian government.

His African Nations Cup qualifying debut will be a crucial home match against Nigeria in March.

Football Association of Malawi (FAM) spokesman Chris Kamphinda said the 54-year old Gillet took up his training duties with the Flames on Monday.

Gillet arrived in the country on Sunday to take over from Danish coach Kim Splidsboel, whose two-year contract expired in 2002.

Malawi did not renew the contract with the Dane, saying it could not afford him after Denmark stopped all aid to the southern African country.
