Fashanu's Nigerian import plan
![]() John Fashanu has big plans for Barry
Nigeria's top young footballing talent may get a passport to Britain through a most unlikely source.
Former England international John Fashanu, who is on the board of the NFA, has bought Welsh club side Barry Town. And he says he hopes they will soon be fielding some of the best young Super Eagles.
"It's an opportunity to showcase one or two of Nigeria's excellent football players," Fashanu said, outlining his reasons for buying the club. "I hope I will be appointed the Chairman of the Nigerian Premier League and use my involvement on the board of the Nigerian Football Association." However that will only be possible if the players have represented Nigeria at international level. But one of the biggest lures to Barry's home at Jenner Park will be the fact that Barry have the opportunity to play in Europe. The Welsh league is one of Europe's minor leagues, but the winners still have the opportunity to play in Uefa competition in the preliminary stages. |
