Zimbabwe fans shot

Relations between the two clubs have been poor

A football fan shot in the head by police remains in a critical condition in a hospital in Bulawayo.

Keeper Moyo was wounded at the trouble-ridden league match between Highlanders and Dynamos at the Barbourfields stadium over the weekend.

Highlander fans, furious with their 1-0 loss at home to Dynamos, went on a rampage, attacking opposing fans and policemen.

Another fan, who was shot in the groin, is in stable condition.

"After the final whistle, people started overturning cars and throwing missiles and stones.

"The police tried to disperse them using teargas," said Police Inspector Smile Dube.

Seven police officers were also injured, a police vehicle and an ambulance extensively damaged and a police post next to the stadium was attacked by the mob.

It is not the first time that acts of violence have taken place at Highlanders ground.

Last year, an African Champions League match was abandoned, when Highlanders were losing 2-0 to Tanzanian club Young Africans.

Highlanders and Dynamos are Zimbabwe's biggest clubs and the charged atmosphere surrounding matches between the arch-rivals has always been a cause for concern.
