Africa's airborne acrobats
Efe Sodje and Pius Ikedia watch Aghahowa's spectacular display
Aghahowa takes to the air after scoring against Scotland
Julius Aghahowa's goal celebrations are set to become one of the enduring images of the 2002 World Cup.

The Nigerian striker's seven back-flips, followed by a backward somersault, are the most spectacular goal celebrations the game has seen.

But not to be outdone, Newcastle United and DR Congo forward Lomana Lua-Lua is also getting noticed.

He scored his second goal this season for Newcastle on Saturday in a 3-0 win over Charlton, and set off on his own series of gymnastic moves.

Lua-Lua's display is identical to Aghahowa's, with seven back-flips and a backward somersault.

Both players have perfected their techniques over a number of seasons.

Injury risk

Lua-Lua was first spotted doing his back-flips while playing for Colchester United in the English third division.

Lua-Lua is a gymnastics fan
He is a self-professed fan of gymnastics.

Now he is seeing more action at Newcastle he has more opportunity to show-off.

Julius Aghahowa hit the headlines at the 2000 African Nations Cup finals, where he scored some spectacular goals, and celebrated accordingly, in front of his home fans.

Their daring displays have their hazards though.

Lua-Lua has had to leave the field during a match after injured himself while celebrating.

And while Aghahowa has not made a mistake yet, his international team-mate Celestine Babayaro has.

Babayaro's debut for Chelsea was delayed after he hurt himself in his own, albeit rather more modest, goal celebration in a practice match.
