Ahly win Super Cup

The celebrations in Cairo went on long into the night

Egyptian side Al-Ahly have won the African Super Cup with a convincing thrashing of Kaizer Chiefs from South Africa.

It was largely a one-sided game, which also saw a bizarre goal from Egyptian 'keeper Essam El-Haddary.

In the 62nd minute, with goalie Brian Baloyi off his line, El-Haddary whacked a long free-kick over his head and into the South African's net.

The 40,000 Cairo fans went wild with joy, as the goal put Ahly in firm control of the game.

Before that, they had taken a 2-1 lead with goals from Khaled Bebo and Hossam Ghali.

Fireworks

Earlier, Cyril Nzama stunned the home fans when his header tied scores at 1-1.

Sayed Abdel-Hafiz wrapped up the game with Ahly's fourth goal in the 70th minute.

The Egyptians also hit the crossbar twice.

Afterwards, a fireworks display illuminated the Cairo skyline, as Al-Ahly, who were last year voted the African Club of the Century, recorded their first Super Cup victory.

In 1995, they were beaten 1-0 by Egyptian arch-rivals Zamalek.
