Queiroz's future unsure
South Africa's Carlos Queiroz
Quieroz faces an uncertain few days with Safa
The rumour mill continues to pound over the future of South African coach Carlos Queiroz but officials are staying tight-lipped about what action they are to take.

D-day for Queiroz is Saturday when the South African Football Association meets to consider reports from officials and the coach into the team's performance at the African Nations Cup finals in Mali.

There has been a backlash in South Africa to the uninspired showing of Bafana Bafana, who won just one of their four matches at the tournament.

Two goalless draws were followed by a victory over Morocco, which gave South Africa top place in group B.

But the World Cup finalists were then eliminated by hosts Mali in the quarter-final in Kayes in a match in which they managed just two shots in goal.

Queiroz will present a report to officials at the meeting, and then they will consider a separate report from South Africa's delegation chief.

Brazil friendly

One official, speaking on the grounds of anonymity, said Queiroz's future as South African coach was "touch and go'.

But Safa president Molefi Oliphant said earlier this month that it would foolhardy to change the coaching staff so soon before the World Cup finals.

Safa officials say they will also announce South Africa's preparatory programme for the World Cup finals later this week.

Matches against Brazil, the Czech Republic, Yugoslavia and China are reportedly being arranged.

Queiroz said he had also hoped to get a match against Portugal in South Korea after both teams arrive in Asia for the World Cup finals.

He had discussions with Portuguese coach Antonio Oliviera about the possibility of a warm-up international when they two met at the World Cup draw in Busan in December.
