Cameroon have proved they are ready to compete with some of the world's best after holding Poland to a goalless draw in Poznan.

The Indomitable Lions, playing their first match under the guidance of new coach Winfried Schafer, had a good test as they continue to prepare for the World Cup and African Cup of Nations.

However the visitors started slowly, obviously feeling the effects of the bitterly cold conditions.

Poland had the best of the early scoring opportunities as the visitors struggled to get into the match, but the Cameroon defence held firm.

Foe played well

Tight defence

Keeper Boukar Alioum was called upon a number of times in the early minutes.

By midway through the half the Lions found their stride, with Marc Vivien Foe, Samuel Etoo and Patrick Mboma combining particularly well in attack.

Mboma had two shots within the space of a minute but both were blocked by the steadfast Polish defence.

Boukar was forced to pull off another good save by the break as Poland's Pawel Kryzalowicz proved a handful.

By half time the honours were even, with both sides having their share of scoring opportunities.

Olisadebe had a quiet game

The second spell started in much the same vein as the first with Cameroon taking some time to get back into the match.

Yellow card

After a good natured first half, tempers flared early in the second as Kalla was fouled five minutes after the break.

Piotr Swierczewski was eventually shown a yellow card for his part in the fracas.

Both sides had their chances as the game continued to tick away but it eventually jumped through to an almost inevitable goalless end.

Coach Schafer should be pleased with his side's outing who were far from outclassed by a tough European outfit.
