Invitations flood in for Senegal

Invitations have been flooding into the headquarters of the Senegalese Football Federation in Dakar since the country's qualification for the World Cup finals.

The west Africans have been invited to play matches in France, Italy, South Korea and Tanzania in the next two months, although no final decisions have yet been taken.

Japan have asked the Senegalese to play them in Paris on October 4, one of two matches that the World Cup hosts have earmarked for Europe.

The Japanese play South Africa in Britain on October 7 in the other game.

Senegal have also been invited to South Korea to play the other Cup co-hosts in an international in Seoul on October 10.

East African invitation

Also in October, Senegal are being sought as the fourth side to join Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in the Castle Lager Cup, the annual four-nations event that started last year.

Cameroon were originally asked but did not respond to the invitation and organisers are now awaiting a response from Dakar.

Senegal were also due to play against Inter Milan in a gala match on Sunday, August 19 which UNICEF ambassador Ronaldo has organised at the San Siro stadium

The match was intended as a return to the Inter side for the Brazilian superstar who has been blighted with injury for the last two years, but Senegal could not meet the fixture and their place has been taken by Nigerian club champions Enyimba.

Senegalese officials further say they have been asked to play in Rennes, France as part of the club's centenary celebrations on September 1.

Rennes is the former club of El Hadji Ousseynou Diouf, who scored a vital eight goals in the Lions' successful World Cup qualifying campaign.

Defender Lamine Diatta is still a regular at Rennes.
