Fans seek Weah return
George Weah talks to the Liberian team
Weah is seen as an inspiration to many players
Sport Online has discovered that most Liberian fans want George Weah to reconsider his decision to step down as national coach and player.

George Weah's decision to quit the Liberian national team following their loss to Ghana in the world cup qualifier, came as a huge shock.

Despite the defeat almost certainly costing them a place in next year's World Cup finals, any believe that Liberian football would suffer without the former World Player of the Year's involvement.

Weah stepped down after insults were levelled at his Mother by disgruntled fans.

You are a patriot Weah so do the right thing and play. People may insult your Mother, just move on
  Adolphus Harris, Liberia/USA
But most fans who have emailed Sport Online's African website say they want Weah to reconsider.

Many agree that he was right to make a stand against the unruly element of supporters but say they hope he can put the incident behind him and come back to represent his country.

"Weah this is typical Africa behaviour - and I support you. Your Mother is more precious than anything else. We Africans need to grow up learn,"Ibrahim Bolo Conteh from Sierra Leone wrote.

Umarr Jabbie from England agrees.

"Your deciaion is well repected, supported and the best of luck. Your Mum and that of the other players deserve respect and honour," he said.

Adolphus Harris, a Liberian living in the U.S.A hopes, like many other fans who wrote to Sport Online, that Weah will make a return.

"You are a patriot Weah so do the right thing and play. People may insult your Mother even if you do decide to play. Just move on, you're much bigger than the disgraceful behaviour of soccer fans," he said.

The unruly behaviour of Liberian fans was not sufficient reason for Weah to create a scenario
  Molley V Paasewe, Liberia
Very few supporters actually criticised Weah but those who did had strong views, one also remarked that it was not the first time that Weah had decided to quit the national side.

"This is not the first time, he did it in 1996 during the African Cup of Nations when Liberia were surprisingly booted out by Congo Zaire. The unruly behaviour of Liberian fans was not sufficient reason for Weah to create a scenario," wrote Molley V Paasewe from Liberia.

Mardea from Liberia was even less impressed with Weah's behaviour.

"Many people do not know that Weah's presence in the team has driven away other talented players. He has does a lot of Liberian football but now thinks himself to be some sort of God. Unruly fans who insult players should not be encouraged but Weah will not listen to even the most intelligent criticism."
