Raja coach quits

Raja line up to face Corinthians in the 2000 World Club Championship but they have slumped since
Sylvestre Takac, who led Raja Casablanca to their sixth consecutive championship last month, has quit the Moroccan club following their African Champions League exit ten days ago.

Yugoslavian Takac, 60, presented his resignation on Tuesday, less than a week after the Raja president Ahmed Ammor and other senior officials left the club.

Raja were knocked out in the second round leading to the group stage by Congolese side Tout-Puissant Mazembe Englebert de Lubumbashi, who were among the dynamic African clubs over 25 years ago.

Takac became the third coach of Raja - the club nicknamed the Green Devils - three months ago after signing a three-year contract.

He had replaced the Brazilian Vieira, the successor to Romanian Alexandre Moldovan, who was sacked after his first two matches at the start of the season which ended in draws.

Second costly exit

Raja beat Mazembe 2-1 in their second round, second leg match in Casablanca but were eliminated 3-2 on aggregate.

Last year the Moroccans were the defending champions but also surprise early victims in the Champions League, beaten at the same stage by Jeanne d'Arc of Senegal.

Argentinian coach Oscar Fullone led Raja to the maiden Club World Championship in Brazil last year, but they have quickly fallen from such heights.

Fullone later joined Raja¿s local arch-rivals Wydad Athletic Casablanca when he returned to Morocco after a short break in his career.
