Fifa and Guinea on collision course
Guinea currently top their World Cup group
Guinea's national team the Sylli National
Fifa are likely to suspend Guinea after its February 14th deadline passed without the reinstatement of the Football Association Executive.

Guinea's Sports Minister dissolved the FA two weeks ago, and Fifa warned that they would be suspended if the decision was not reversed.

Fifa have had no official reply from Guinea, but new elections were held in Conakry on Tuesday night.

Businessman Mamadou Sylla was voted in as Chairman, to replace Salifou Camara, and many of the old FA officials were also voted out.

These people have been elected contrary to Fifa statutes and that cannot be accepted

Although all eight regional leagues were represented at the vote, Fifa spokesman Andreas Heren said the elections may still be invalid, because the original members had not been reinstated, and the elections had taken place as a result of government interference.

Guinea are due to play a World Cup qualifier in South Africa in March, but unless the situation is resolved quickly, the country could find itself out of the competition.

The Sylli National as the Guinean team are called, currently top Group five of Africa's qualifying groups.

The axing of the FA by the Sports Minister came one day after Guinea's disappointing 1-all home draw against Malawi the qualifiers for Japan/S.Korea 2002.
