Ex-Seagull Nicky Forster enjoying non-league spell

Former Brighton, Brentford and Reading striker Nicky Forster may have hung up his boots as a professional but he has not lost his cutting edge in front of goal.

The 37-year-old helped Lingfield FC through to the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup last weekend, scoring a brace in their 4-0 victory away to Hailsham Town.

"They are my local club so I said I'd play some games while I'm here, when available," Forster told BBC Sussex.

"[I do it for] a bit for enjoyment but my competitive side is still there. I came from the lower leagues and I always say I'd go back and play a final season.

"I still enjoy scoring and winning. I'm competitive by nature."

Forster, who scored 51 goals in his three-year stay with Brighton at the Withdean Stadium, said the club will always have a place in his heart.

"The first thing I look for is Albion results," he continued. "It's probably the club I played my best football at.

"I've still got a link there with my boy Jake [Forster-Caskey].

"They're a great club that are going places, and I enjoy going back there."

Forster, who is currently studying for his 'A' coaching licence, will intersperse his appearances for Lingfield with his media and scouting commitments.

But after his 21-game spell in charge of League One outfit Brentford at the end of last season, he is still undecided where his future in the game lies.

"At the moment, having just retired, it's time for me to keep my options open and see what materialises," he said.

"I enjoy doing both media and coaching, though I don't know if I can be that greedy and do both. Time will tell."
