Defender Robert Huth was named Stoke City's player of the year at the club's annual awards ceremony on Monday.

The Germany international, who joined the Potters from Middlesbrough for £5m in 2009, made 44 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals.

Huth collected two awards on the evening, winning both the supporters' and players' player of the year prizes.

"I'm really proud because all of the nominees tonight could have won it," the 26-year-old told BBC Radio Stoke.

Striker Jonathan Walters won the coaches' player of the year award and the goal of the season for his solo effort in the FA Cup semi-final victory over Bolton Wanderers at Wembley in April.

Walters, who netted 12 goals in his first season with the Potters, also shared the top scorer prize with record signing Kenwyne Jones.

"You've got to always believe that you're going to get to the highest level," the former Chester and Ipswich striker told BBC Radio Stoke.

"That's your ambition, to play in the Premier League. To get to the FA Cup final was special and hopefully we'll qualify for Europe next year."

Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic was named young player of the season after displacing Thomas Sorensen as first-choice keeper in October and starting 28 Premier League games.
