Lot 1966 - Hurst under the hammer
![]() Hurst scores: They think it's all over...it is now!
The red shirt worn by England football legend Sir Geoff Hurst when he scored his hat-trick during the 1966 World Cup final victory over Germany is expected to fetch up to £30,000 at auction on Thursday.
Hurst is selling the number 10 shirt as part of a collection of his football memorabilia going under the hammer at Christie's auctioneers in London. The 129 lots, which are expected to fetch up to £180,000 in total, include trophies, medals and international caps acquired by Hurst during his long career. A blue World Cup 1966 International cap is estimated to go for £15,000-20,000.
"It was always my intention to leave the collection to my children, but I have three daughters so how do you split it up fairly," he said when the sale was announced in July. His family had selected some items that they wanted to keep, and some things for his grandchildren. "But I've also lost a significant part of the collection in two burglaries, and as a consequence everything is now locked away and nobody ever sees it," he added.
