St Paul's retain Jersey Premiership title

Football on the BBC

St Paul's retained the Jersey Premiership title thanks to a 5-1 win over nine-man Trinity, and other key results going in their favour.

The champions went behind early on, but hit back with goals from Mark Lucas (2), Luke Watson (2) and Craig Leitch.

St Paul's boss Martin Cassidy said: "The league's been mad this year, but we've stayed consistent."

The players waited more than 30 minutes for results from around the island confirming they had won the league.

That was because there was a long delay due to an injury in the game between struggling St Clement and St Peter.

A last minute penalty gave St Clement a 3-2 win and ensured the St Paul's players could celebrate retaining the title.

Elsewhere, Jersey Scottish beat Jersey Wanderers 3-1.

Cassidy told BBC Radio Jersey: "It's not really sunk in to be honest.

"We'll get tonight out the way and then look to next week - there's four games left to play."

In the only other Premiership game on Saturday, Grouville overcame St Ouen 2-1.
