Jermaine Pennant eyes permanent deal at Stoke City

Stoke City winger Jermaine Pennant says he would be happy to sign a permanent contract at the club in January.

The 27-year-old joined the Potters on a six-month loan deal from Spanish club Real Zaragoza in August and has since made nine appearances.

"If the two teams can agree something I'll be more than happy to put pen to paper," Pennant said.

Boss Tony Pulis has also expressed his interest in keeping the former Liverpool man at the club.

Speaking last week, Pulis told BBC Radio Stoke: "He's a good lad, he's been very good for us but whether we can do a deal or not remains to be seen.

"You're dealing with a Spanish club, it's not cut and dried where I can ring up a manager and speak to them and understand where the kid stands."

Stoke is the ninth club Pennant has represented during his professional career and after a frustrating time in Spain he is keen to settle down.

"I'm enjoying the way things have been going, living in the area, the team and everything," he said.

Despite moving regularly over the years, the former England Under-21 star does not think he has anything to prove to those familiar with English football.

"I've played in the Premier League all my career, I've played at some big teams, it's just getting back into the Premier League after being out of it for a year and showing I'm still here," he added.

"Tony Pulis has given me a platform to show what I can do, he does say his wingers work the hardest of any in the league and they do but if it helps the team that's what I'm here to do."
