Lincoln City 1-0 Sheffield Utd (agg 1-6)
A second half goal from Australian midfielder Marcus Stergiopoulos gave Lincoln a shock 1-0 Worthington Cup second leg win over Sheffield United - but the Blades still progressed to the next round thanks to their 6-0 advantage from the first leg.

In a move completely in contrast with an uneventful match Stergiopoulos cut inside Andy Woodward before finishing with a superb right foot shot into the bottom corner.

The First Division club at times appeared to be simply going through the motions in front of a sparse crowd of just 1,379. Although United had far more of the possession they were unable to seriously threaten Lincoln keeper Alan Marriott.

The Imps caused a few surprises in the first half with striker Dave Cameron unlucky to see a header come back off the angle of post and bar.

Then Lincoln skipper John Finnigan produced a great cross from the right which Tony Battersby headed narrowly wide.

Lincoln City: Marriott, J. Barnett, Holmes, Brown, Mayo, Smith, Finnigan, Stergiopoulos, P. Gain, Battersby, Cameron. Subs: Walker, Bimson, Peacock, Lewis, Lindley.

Sheff Utd: Tracey, Murphy, Jagielka, Webber, Woodward, Curle, Santos, M. Brown, Kelly, Bent, Thompson. Subs: Uhlenbeek, Ford, Cryan, Smith, Burley.

Referee: P Richards (Preston).
