Ryman League footballer on way back after broken leg

Non League

A Kent semi-professional footballer, who last month broke his right leg in three places in an awful collision, has vowed to carry on playing.

Mark Green, who plays for Ryman League side Chatham Town, sustained the injury against Folkestone on December 29.

The match had to be abandoned after 77 minutes so that paramedics could treat him on the pitch.

Green told BBC Radio Kent: "The break was clean and the good news is there is no ligament damage."

He praised Chatham Town and his former clubs for their financial assistance.

"I work in construction and my boss has promised to keep my job open until I'm fit to return," he said.

"But I have a mortgage to pay and Chatham Town have been as good as gold helping out, while other clubs I've played for have had bucket collections.

"It shows that football is a family, because everyone has come together to help.

"I can't thank people enough for all the help I've received."
