Vale Recreation were at home for the first round match
Vale Recreation beat Castle Cary 3-2 in their Somerset Senior Cup first round match at the Corbet Field on Saturday.
The visitors scored first against a young Vale Rec side before Mark Ramsden equalised with a free kick.
Gareth Holden scored an opportunist goal to give Rec the lead but Castle Cary came straight back before Holden scored the decider.
Coach Phil Corbet said he was delighted with the hard work but there were still some aspects of their game to work on.
He said: "We've got a young squad and with the injuries we've picked up in the last six weeks or so the likes of Glenn Le Tissier and Adam Dunn have come in in their first year out of the under-16s, so they've done extremely well."
Corbet said: "We wanted to try and attack every ball that came rather than waiting and see what happened and I thought they did that very well.
"I think now we sit back, we wait for the draw and see whether it's a home or away game on 5 December."
The last time Vale Recreation entered a regional amateur tournament was 15 years ago.
Castle Cary FC play in the Premier Division of the Somerset County League.
