2158: I must go now because I explode at 2200 GMT. See you soon though. Ooh, goodness: don't forget the highlights on BBC1 and streamed on this website (UK only) at 2255 GMT.
Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez on the penalty shout: "I haven't seen it but Aquilani told me it was a penalty. Anyway, you can't change it now. It's disappointing to have lost but we saw some quality and it was a good game with chances for both teams. Aquilani showed quality - his match fitness is something he can only improve by playing games. Hopefully he can have a big impact on our season."
Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger: "The quality of the game was outstanding. Both teams played very well and there was very little between the two teams. I believe the experience of the two centre-backs was important in vital moments. The team played the way we want to play football: you could see the quality was there."
From Daz via text on 81111: "The fact that all eight teams left in the Carling Cup are from the Premier League, just shows you that the top teams are now taking this competition seriously."
2148: The quarter-final draw is on Saturday from 1200 GMT. The names in the hat: Arsenal, Aston Villa, Blackburn, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Portsmouth, and Tottenham.
2145: Apparently it was Alberto Aquilani's overhead kick that hit Philippe Senderos's hands. It looked like a ball-to-hand situation to me, but I'd like to see a replay.
2142: For the sixth season in a row, Liverpool's Carling Cup hopes are ended by a London club. Chelsea's impressive home form continues: they have won all nine of their games at the Bridge, and haven't conceded since the opening day of the season against Hull.
2140: FULL-TIME Man City 5-1 Scunthorpe
2139: FULL-TIME Chelsea 4-0 Bolton
2139: FULL-TIME Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool
2138: Aquilani's volley actually strikes both Philippe Senderos's hands, hitting one and cannoning into the other. He could hardly get out of the way though.
2137: Half-shouts for a penalty from Liverpool as Alberto Aquilani's overhead volley appears to strike a hand... Liverpool piling forward, but they'll be vulnerable on the counter.
2135: Still hope for Liverpool though. They have four added minutes to try to find an equaliser.
Chelsea goal: Joe Cole on the right this time and he crosses for Didier Drogba, who climbs above Gretar Steinsson to head in at the far post.
2134: GOAL Chelsea 4-0 Bolton
2132: Liverpool bring on Nathan Eccleston for his debut, replacing Philipp Degen. Rafa Benitez gets a big cheer from the home fans as he volleys the ball back into play. He's not all that amused, funnily enough.
2132: Great reception for Arsenal goalscorer Fran Merida as he comes on to be replaced by 18-year-old Francis Coquelin.
From Matt in Glasgow, via text on 81111: "Jose Goncalves has been a rock for Hearts tonight. Superb work rate and bravery. Top performance among others in maroon."
2127: Alberto Aquilani has already played two stunning passes since coming on. The second releases Philipp Degen down the right and Ryan Babel is waiting for the cross - but Mikael Silvestre makes the interception. Seven minutes remaining.
2125: FULL-TIME Celtic 0-1 Hearts
2124: RED CARD Celtic (Stephen McManus) McManus is sent off for a rotten challenge on Andy Driver. The referee initially brandished a yellow, but upgraded it to a red after consulting with his assistant. Replays would suggest that was the right call.
2124: Andriy Voronin picks out Dirk Kuyt on the right and he squares it for the onrushing Ryan Babel but the Dutchman is unable to get the final touch. So close for Liverpool.
Man City goal: Back after a long injury lay-off, Michael Johnson hammers home a left-foot shot from 25 yards.
2123: GOAL Man City 5-1 Scunthorpe
2122: And here is Alberto Aquilani making his long-awaited debut, replacing Damien Plessis.
2122: To be fair, Hearts are riding their luck here. But credit is also due to Hearts keeper Janos Balogh. He denies Paddy McCourt from close range. Immense frustration from the Celtic fans and players, Hearts now little more than three injury-time minutes from a semi-final berth.
2119: Bit of satire from John there (see below). Arsenal are playing in red... Anyway, David Ngog is off. Yossi Benayoun is on. And Nicklas Bendtner and Craig Eastmond are replaced by Mark Randall and Sanchez Watt for Arsenal. Aquilani is imminent.
From John in Liverpool via text on 81111: "Vorinon is having his best ever game for us. He looks class. Every time he passes he finds a red shirt. And his mates Babel and Ngog are doing the same. Class above."
Man City goal: Looks like the Football League bid is over for another year. Substitute superkid Vlad Weiss drills in the cross after a short corner and Carlos Tevez converts.
2116: GOAL Man City 4-1 Scunthorpe
2111: How many more chances will Georgios Samaras squander? Aiden McGeady sends over a peach of a cross from the right, it's a free header - but he puts it wide. Still Celtic 0-1-Hearts. Ten minutes left.
Chelsea goal: Done and dusted. Didier Drogba cleverly steps over Joe Cole's cross and Deco takes a touch before arrowing a shot into the bottom corner.
2111: GOAL Chelsea 3-0 Bolton
2110: A free-kick for Liverpool... Andriy Voronin lays it off to Ryan Babel, whose low effort is well struck but collected by Lukasz Fabianski.
2107: Chelsea bring on the promising Didier Drogba for Daniel Sturridge. Disappointing night for the ex-City striker.
2106: A substitution of interest at Eastlands where Stephen Ireland is replaced by highly-rated Slovakian superkid Vlad Weiss.
2105: Wow, two brilliant chances for Celtic, two brilliant chances for Georgios Samaras. First up, the striker bursts into the box, seems certain to score but can't quite force it home as he loses his balance. Seconds later, the Greek beats the offside trap, and lobs Jonas Balogh in the Hearts goal. He raises his arm in celebration, then looks on in horror as the ball bounces off the foot of the post and into the arms of Balogh.
Man City goal: Defender Joleon Lescott heads in Shaun Wright-Phillips' corner to make it two goals in two games. Meanwhile at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge fires wide twice in a minute when he should have done better.
2102: GOAL Man City 3-1 Scunthorpe
From James in Hampshire, via text on 81111: "Re Dan at 2045: Agent Bendtner has just been activated. Postcard was his KGB trigger."
2100: Liverpool show off some decent one-touch passing now, but Andriy Voronin drags the shot just wide of the far post.
2058: Decent save by Ross Turnbull from Mark Davies at Stamford Bridge. Long way back for Bolton, who are up against Chelsea again on Saturday at the Reebok.
Arsenal goal: More dizzying passing from Arsenal. A one-two actually goes awry in the centre, but Craig Eastmond picks up the pieces and sweeps a delicious first-time pass out to Fran Merida on the left. The ball eventually comes to Nicklas Bendtner, who works it out from under his feet and lashes the finish high into the net.
2055: GOAL Arsenal 2-1 Liverpool
Dave from Scunny, via text on 81111: "Really proud of our boys. Only 2-1 down at half time and still in with a chance. Up the Iron!"
2052: Carling Cup second halves are under way. Chelsea and Bolton make a change each. Chelsea: Michael Essien for Saloman Kalou. Johan Elmander for Gretar Steinsson.
Hearts goal: Christian Nade is sent flying by Daniel Fox - and Michael Stewart doesn't catch his penalty kick well at all, but he's lucky to see it squeeze under Lukasz Zaluska's body.
2049: GOAL Celtic 0-1 Hearts
2048: PENALTY TO HEARTS
From Richard in York via text on 81111: "Re LFCfan128: I actually think Spearing is playing well. Ngog is the star for us, really bright performance, would like to see him partner Torres in Gerrard's absence."
2045: Paddy McCourt, on as a half-time substitute, nearly scores a beauty for Celtic. He breaks down the left, twists and turns the Hearts defence, and unleashes a cracker which smacks the underside of the crossbar and rebounds out to safety.
From Dan, nursing a back sprain in Kent, via text on 81111: "Nasri, Merida and Ramsey are running the show for Arsenal this first half, Liverpool have not really shown anything to match the class in this talented young Arsenal squad. Though I am starting to think that Bendtner is a spy sent in to give the ball away and fail to score for us. And not just in this game. Anyone else's views on a postcard please!"
From LFCfan128 on 606:
"Voronin and Babel are just not good enough. Voronin can't pass or score, and Babel can't take on any players and loses possession too easily. Spearing looks lost and like he just want to go home! But it's all to play for. I can feel it's going to be a LONG night!"
2038: They're back off and running at Parkhead.
2036: Over on
Ryan Babel, Andriy Voronin, Kerrea Gilbert and Nicklas Bendtner are battling it out for the villain of the piece at the Emirates. I bet Lucas is looking on and laughing. Actually, he probably isn't.
2035: HALF-TIME Chelsea 2-0 Bolton
2034: HALF-TIME Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool
2033: HALF-TIME Man City 2-1 Scunthorpe
2029: Samir Nasri, who has shown some lovely touches on his return tonight, sends Craig Eastmond scampering into the box, but his cut-back is intercepted by the Liverpool defender. From the corner, there is an ALMIGHTY SCRAMBLE after Diego Cavalieri misses it - but Arsenal can't put it away.
2028: And now City hit the post as Gareth Barry slides in to meet Roque Santa Cruz's cross. City have won all four of their previous matches against Scunthorpe, scoring 21 goals in the process.
Man City goal: Pablo Zabaleta crosses for Roque Santa Cruz to head in his first goal for City since his £17.5m move from Blackburn.
2025: GOAL Man City 2-1 Scunthorpe
2025: After another sweeping Arsenal move which begins with Nicklas Bendtner in the right-back position, Diego Cavalieri comes charging out to meet Fran Merida - but is nowhere near. Martin Skrtel heads away the shot though.
From Chip it like Vela on 606:
"Our right-back Gilbert seems very average. Not much support in attacking raids, doesn't look physically up to it and also has been caught out in possession a couple of times. Good news so far is Babel doesn't seem to fancy running at him."
2020: HALF-TIME Celtic 0-0 Hearts
2019: Still 0-0 between Celtic and Hearts but chances aplenty. For the visitors, David Obua breaks down the right and delivers a lovely cross for Ismael Bouzid whose diving header flies wide. For Celtic, Zheng Zhi breaks forward and finds himself on the edge of the box, but his fierce low drive goes just wide. Then Hearts keeper Jonas Balogh tips over from point-blank range after a real scramble. The home side starting to turn the screw just before half-time.
Liverpool goal: What. A. Strike. Emiliano Insua's first goal in English football is an absolute cracker: a left-foot volley from 25 yards which flies over the stretching arm of Lukasz Fabianksi and dips dramatically under the crossbar. I think that's what you call a goal out of nothing.
Scunthorpe goal: Hmmm.... Jonathan Forte's low shot levels things up for the Iron, the last remaining Football League side in the Carling Cup.
2014: GOAL Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool
2013: GOAL Man City 1-1 Scunthorpe
Chelsea goal: This is too easy. Salomon Kalou crosses from the left and Florent Malouda's header cannons off Zat Knight. The Chelsea man is quickest to react, smashing home Chelsea's second.
2010: GOAL Chelsea 2-0 Bolton
2009: Hilario has a head injury and won't be able to carry on. Ross Turnbull replaces him in the Chelsea goal.
Arsenal goal: What a way to score your first goal for Arsenal. Spanish teenager Fran Merida picks up the ball from Craig Eastmond and lashes in a swerving shot at the near post from just outside the area. Keeper might have done better - but a vicious strike nonetheless.
2007: GOAL Arsenal 1-0 Liverpool
2006: CLASSIC Arsenal. Free-flowing, one-touch football - but no finish. Nicklas Bendtner is the guilty man, playing a one-two with Eduardo but mis-controlling the ball just as he's one-on-one with Diego Cavalieri. Arsenal looking very dangerous though.
2004: Andriy Voronin sprints to close down Arsenal keeper Lukasz Fabianski. Liverpool fans will appreciate the effort - but the Ukrainian may have picked up an injury in the process.
2002: First real chance for Celtic, Shaun Maloney plays a sweet one-two with Zheng Zhi, but his shot is a bit weak and rolls harmlessly through to Janos Balogh in the Hearts goal.
2002: Problems now for Chelsea. Keeper Hilario is flattened after making a brilliant save at the feet of Matt Taylor.
Chelsea goal: Paulo Ferreira cuts back and delivers a wonderful cross from the left and Salomon Kalou escapes his marker to head home.
2000: GOAL Chelsea 1-0 Bolton
1958: Up the other end now and Martin Skrtel brings down Sami Nasri on the edge of the box but the Frenchman's free-kick is wide.
1957: Liverpool should be ahead. Andriy Voronin releases David Ngog with a beautifully weighted pass and Ngog's backheel sends an unmarked Philipp Degen into the box, but the Swiss defender stabs the shot wide.
1956: Twenty minutes gone at Celtic - and Hearts have acquitted themselves well and look fairly comfortable. Still no clear chances since Christian Nade's early attempt though.
1955: Jack Wilshere? I meant Aaron Ramsey of course... Fran Merida drags a left-foot shot wide after a promising move by Arsenal.
1953: Nicklas Bendtner gives the ball away to Ryan Babel, who promptly gives it straight back to Aaron Ramsey. Shot eventually blocked by the Liverpool defence.
Man City goal: That didn't take long. Shaun Wright-Phillips is the creator, laying the ball off to Stephen Ireland who curls his shot inside the post from just outside the area.
1950: GOAL Man City 1-0 Scunthorpe
1948: Away we go in the three Carling Cup games. England boss Fabio Capello is at the Emirates.
1944: Celtic have settled after their shaky start and Aiden McGeady looks lively for the home side down the right hand side. But there's been little to trouble either defence after Christian Nade's early effort.
1941: Arsenal have a 100% home record this season, while Liverpool haven't won away since their third-round win over Leeds in this competition. All completely meaningless, given the unfamiliarity of the two sides this evening, but just thought I'd say. Dirk Kuyt is the Liverpool captain at the Emirates. Captain Dirk, you might say.
1937: If you're in the UK, you might want to give this page a manual refresh if you haven't already. Celtic v Hearts is under way - and the visitors have had an early chance. Christian Nade beats the offside trap, but his shot is cleared by Gary Caldwell.
1936: TEAM NEWS Man City v Scunthorpe Roque Santa Cruz makes his first start for Manchester City as Mark Hughes makes six changes to the side that drew with Fulham on Saturday. Kolo Toure and Martin Petrov are both injured, with Micah Richards, Wayne Bridge and Craig Bellamy on the bench and Emmanuel Adebayor rested. David Mirfin returns from illness to start for Scunthorpe.
1934: TEAMS Man City v Scunthorpe Man City: Given, Zabaleta, Kompany, Lescott, Sylvinho, Wright-Phillips, De Jong, Barry, Ireland, Tevez, Santa Cruz. Subs: Taylor, Richards, Bridge, Johnson, Mwaruwari, Bellamy, Weiss. Scunthorpe: Murphy, Byrne, Jones, Mirfin, Williams, Josh Wright, McCann, O'Connor, Woolford, Forte, Hayes. Subs: Lillis, Andrew Wright, Togwell, Sparrow, Hooper, Spence, Canavan.
1933: Sam texts in to ask where Jack Wilshere is. He's got an ankle injury.
1929: Initial thoughts on Arsenal's 18-year-old debutant Craig Eastmond: hope the wind isn't too strong tonight, he may blow over.
1927: TEAM NEWS Celtic v Hearts Celtic make four changes for the Co-operative Insurance Cup quarter-final tie against Hearts at Parkhead. Strikers Scott McDonald and Georgios Samaras are dropped, as are midfielder Barry Robson and defender Lee Naylor. Danny Fox replaces Naylor, Landry N'Guemo and Marc Crosas come into the midfield and Zheng Zhi pushes up to support lone-striker Chris Killen. Hearts make one change with midfielder Ian Black replacing Suso Santana, who failed to find a place on the bench.
1925: TEAM NEWS Arsenal v Liverpool It's no surprise Arsenal and Liverpool make sweeping changes. Arsenal midfielder Samir Nasri makes his first start of the campaign after breaking his leg in pre-season and is one of 11 changes. Keeper Lukasz Fabianski replaces Vito Mannone, while 18-year-old midfielder Craig Eastmond makes his debut for the club. Liverpool make nine changes from the side that beat Manchester United as Dirk Kuyt captains the side. Central defender Martin Skrtel is back in the side and is partnered by Sotirios Kyrgiakos. Winger Ryan Babel also starts along with strikers Andriy Voronin and David Ngog. Oh and midfielder Alberto Aquilani is on the bench.
1923: Celtic kick off against Hearts in the Co-Op Insurance Cup in about 10 minutes. You can watch it live on this website (if you live in the UK). That's all really.
1920: TEAM NEWS Chelsea v Bolton Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti made the unusual move of naming his side for tonight's match this morning. As expected, he has opted to field what is essentially his second string, with only Branislav Ivanovic, Juliano Belletti, Joe Cole and Michael Ballack surviving from the team who beat Blackburn 5-0 last Saturday, although Michael Essien, Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba are on the bench. Notably, Daniel Sturridge makes his full debut for the club in attack. Bolton make four changes from the side that beat Everton at the weekend. Ivan Klasnic starts in place of Kevin Davies up front, Ali Al Habsi replaces Jussi Jaskelainen in goal, and Mark Davies and Gretar Steinsson take the places of Tamir Cohen and Chung-Yong Lee respectively. Johan Elmander is on the bench after recovering from a hamstring problem.
1910: You'll probably have some more to add. 81111,606,Twitter.
That's all I'm saying.
1906: Well, this much we know: Daniel Sturridge makes his first start for Chelsea since his summer move from Manchester City. Alberto Aquilani (the one everyone's talking about as a Xabi Alonso replacement even though he's actually not that similar to Xabi Alonso) will be on the bench for Liverpool. Some kids (and Mikael Silvestre) will play for Arsenal.
1900: The Carling Cup is truly the land of make believe: Portsmouth win, Blackburn score five, Fergie admits the referee was right. Wonder what on earth is in store tonight?
