Strachan played 16 times for Coventry between 1997 and 2003.
Gavin Strachan will take part in a pre-season friendly for Corby Town against Huddersfield Town on Wednesday.
The 30-year-old midfielder played in the Premier League with Coventry City, and spent last season at Notts County.
"Strachan has not been training with us like some rumours have been suggesting, but he has been in to see me.
"If I feel he's better than what we've got at the moment then, I'd like to bring him in." Manager Graham Drury told the Northants Evening Telegraph.
Strachan has also played for Notts County, Hartlepool United and Peterborough United.
In their pre-season campaign so far, Corby have beaten Rothwell Town 3-0, to secure the Newlands Trophy, and drawn 0-0 with League Two side Macclesfield Town.
The game against Huddersfield Town kicks off on Wednesday at 1930 BST.
