Brazil striker Ronaldo has been fined and suspended by his club Corinthians after breaking a team curfew.

The 32-year-old former world player of the year is yet to feature for the Brazilian side since signing from AC Milan in December last year.

Ronaldo failed to return to the team hotel on Wednesday after a night out with team-mates.

"I am sad, but he is a human being and it is possible to make mistakes," said Corinthians president Andres Sanches.

"He knows he was wrong and was punished for that.

"I hope it is the last time, I already spoke to him about this."

The former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Real Madrid player is reported to have eventually arrived at the hotel at 0530 on Thursday having being spotted at a nightclub.

Ronaldo has not played competitively since February 2008 after rupturing his knee ligaments, but is said to be close to a return after resuming training.
