Le Tissier voices Guernsey doubts

Former Southampton striker Matt Le Tissier says he has serious reservations about plans for a Guernsey side to enter the Kent League.

The Channel Islander, born in Guernsey, told BBC Radio Kent that he did not think it could work logistically.

Le Tissier told BBC Sport: "It's a big commitment for players to travel back from the island every other week.

"I have my doubts about whether you'd be able to sustain a strong enough squad to compete in the Kent League."

The ex-England international added: "I have my reservations, I have to be honest as the players are not full-time players.

"People have got jobs. It's not like it's a full time job as a footballer. They've got jobs and lives and it's going to be very difficult for them."

Kent Premier League chairperson Denise Richmond has recently insisted the plans are still at a very early stage.

The team, whose identity has yet to be revealed, still needs approval from the Football Association, as well as the other clubs in the Kent Premier League.
