Only 18 teams will compete for the 2008/09 Guernsey FA Cup but the Guernsey Football Association insist the competition is still important.
The future of the competition had been cast into doubt after a number of teams decided not to affiliate with the GFA.
Two new teams, Elizabeth College and the College of Further Education, have signed up.
But county secretary Neil Laine admits the GFA board were "disappointed it is not on the scale it used to be."
Laine says the future of the competition is down to the teams and leagues themselves.
"The crux of the issue is how many clubs or leagues decide they want to re-affiliate to the Guernsey Football Association next season," he told the BBC.
