GFA chief hails Vance appointment

Tony Vance
Vance was thought to be joining Guernsey United

Guernsey Football Association's chairman Mark le Tissier says players will pleased at the appointment of Tony Vance as the island's football manager.

Vance was Steve Ogier's number two and was expected to follow him to the new Guernsey United team.

"The players have built up a relationship with Tony in the time that he has been working with them," Le Tissier told BBC Guernsey

"I'm sure they will only be too pleased to continue playing for Tony."

Vance will take the charge of the side in a tournament being organised for Easter ahead of May's Muratti at Footes Lane.

He will also take charge of the club at the Island Games in Aland next summer as well as in the National League Systems Cup.

The move will cause a problem for Guernsey United, with Steve Ogier having to find a new assistant.

But the club, which aims to play in the Kent Premier League next season, has yet to be affiliated to the Guernsey Football Association.

Le Tissier expects to meet with officials from Guernsey United in the next fortnight.

"Discussions are ongoing with the representatives from Guernsey United. We have a meeting arranged now and hopefully that will move things forward," he said.
