Bremner inches from victory over Brazil
Scotland 0-0 Brazil
Pele said that Scotland captain Billy Bremner was the best player at the 1974 World Cup finals in West Germany.
Does anyone remember that remarkable assessment from the world's best player?
But what Scotland fans will remember is the combative midfielder's agonising miss from almost on the goal line in a goalless draw against Brazil.
Joe Jordan had powered a header at the Brazil goal that was saved by Emerson Leao. However, the goalkeeper almost dropped the ball onto Bremner's foot and, incredibly, he poked his shot a few inches wide of the post.
Scotland, though undefeated in the tournament, were eliminated. A 2-0 victory over Zaire and a 1-1 scoreline in the match Yugoslavia were not enough to see the Scots through to the quarter-finals.
