By Jonathan Stevenson

In: Blackburn (Bunn), Everton (Fellaini, Saha, Nash), Hull (Cousin), Liverpool (Flora, Gulacsi, Riera), Man City (Robinho), Man Utd (Berbatov), Newcastle (Gonzalez, Xisco), Portsmouth (Belhadj), Sunderland (McCartney), Stoke (Higginbotham, Soares, Tonge), Tottenham (Pavlyuchenko, Corluka, Campbell), West Brom (Donk)

Out: Bolton (Dzemaili), Fulham (Zakuani, John, Smertin), Liverpool (Finnan, Voronin), Man City (Corluka, Vidal), Man Utd (Saha, Campbell), Portsmouth (Cranie, Christophe), Sunderland (Higginbotham), Stoke (Parkin), Tottenham (Berbatov), West Ham (McCartney), Wigan (Bouaouzan, Nash, Sibierski)

And some deals you may have missed...
Everton broke their transfer record by signing Standard Liege midfielder Marouane Fellaini, 20, for £15m. And Premier League new boys Stoke added Tom Soares, 22, from Crystal Palace for £1.25m, and Michael Tonge, 25, for £2m from Sheffield United.

0100: So that's it. It only leaves me, on behalf of Fletch (who I hope was tucked up in bed many hours ago) and myself to thank you lot for a truly memorable performance. With over 16,000 texts and 15,000 comments on 606, it has been a remarkable day. I hope you got a player or two you wanted, but if you didn't, keep the faith. There's only four months to go until the January transfer window opens!! Take care, go and get some sleep. Love Stevo.

0058: "I desperately need my refreshing sleep. I beg bring this refreshing orgy to an end."
Simon, via text on 81111

0056: I've got four minutes left. I don't know what I'm going to do with myself. What a day it's been. Get the beers in Stevo.

0054: "Are all Spurs fans forgetting about Pavlyuchenko?! Between him and the pre-season wonder of Bent, with Campbell as sub striker, who more do they need?"
Jimthor, via text on 81111

0052: "I'm still thinking there will be more deals to be announced...wouldn't be surprised if these involve Jermaine Pennant and Michael Owen."

0051: "This is a key signing. Dimitar is one of the best and most exciting strikers in world football. His style and ability will give the team a different dimension and Iżm sure he will be a popular player with the fans."
Manchester United's 'got what I wanted again, didn't I?' manager Sir Alex Ferguson

0049: "Joining Manchester United is a dream come true for me. I look forward to playing my part in helping this club win more honours in the years to come."
The not-so-sulky-anymore Man Utd striker Dimitar Berbatov

0046: "I guess that still leaves Spurs a striker short... the Owen rumours were rubbish?"
Moon1971 on 606
Join the debate on 606

Let's face it, most of the rumours were rubbish. But they were all awesome and helped us have a blinding day, in fairness.

0042: "Stevo. You not staying up to cover Andy Murray's game tonight?"
Marc, via text on 81111

0041: Do you think anything else is going to happen? I've a funny feeling it might do - if not tonight, there's always tomorrow morning!

0036: As part of the deal, Spurs have agreed not to pursue their complaint to the Premier League over Manchester United's pursuit of Dimitar Berbatov. Great day for Fergie then, unsurprisingly.

The Spurs website says they have agreed to sell Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United for £30.75m, with Fraizer Campbell going to Spurs on a season-long loan. Did you get all that?

0033: "Mark Hughes, what a legend... why sign Ronaldinho for £12m at 28, when you can get the next in line at 24 for £34m - what a signing! Wright-Phillips on one wing, Robinho on the other with Elano and Michael Johnson in the middle - class!"
rfclegends on 606
Join the debate on 606

Oh behave. The next in line? Robinho will never be fit to lace Ronaldinho's boots.

0030: Just a quick reminder that Robinho's first game in a Manchester City shirt (sorry, but that sounds wrong) will be against Chelsea at Eastlands on Saturday, 13 September at 1730 BST. Now that should be lively.

0027: For some of the people I love, I do hope Spurs have signed someone. And Forest fans, I've given up on a right-back. Maybe it's time to give Brendon Moloney a run. Oh, back to the window...

0023: "The quote ''Newcastle have completed the signing of Spain Under-21 striker Xisco, 22'' doesn't make sense!"
Fanta, via text on 81111

Er, yes it does. As long as you're 21 or under at the start of a qualifying tournament in the Under 21s, you can play for them until the end of that tournament. So technically, you could be 23 and play for an Under-21 side. No need to apologise, that's fine.

0020: Big chat that Everton have signed that Marouane Felliani dude from Standard Liege. The Everton website, unhelpfully, is crashing more often than my mate Pearlo in the first year after he passed his driving test, so more news as and when on that one.

0017: Any danger of a Berbatov announcement? I mean we've all got homes to go to (eventually)...

0015: "This window has really changed everything. For the first time I can remember, Abramovic has been out-bid by another club. What does this say about the league now?"

Newcastle have completed the signing of Spain Under-21 striker Xisco, 22, on a five-year deal. Fashionably late, I think you call it nowadays.

0010: If you don't bring me news of a new striker soon I'm going to kill you."
Pearlo, via text on 81111

Oh do one, mate. You've still got Darren Bent...

0007: "I am absolutely delighted to get the opportunity to work with such an incredible talent like Robinho. I have said that in order to compete with the best teams in the Premier League we have to be in the market for players of this calibre, and Robinho is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world."
Man City manager Mark Hughes

Robinho, the 24-year-old Brazilian, has left Real Madrid and signed for Manchester City. That is officially the biggest deadline day deal in history. Probably.

0003: "I was sure Tottenham had a striker lined up. They've even loaned youth striker Pekhart to Southampton. Michael Owen? Just get on with it!"
Sue, via text on 81111

0001: "Every time I have spoken with him he was very sad, crying and asking to leave Spain," said Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon of Robinho.

Oh come on Binho, joining City isn't that bad. Is it?

2358: Two minutes left until the transfer window fairly slams shut on the Premier League. I'll go big in caps and bold in a sec, but don't worry, there'll be plenty of chat after middo. Dare you go anywhere...

2356: Still no word from Tottenham on anything. My sources are frantically trying to garner some information, but being largely unsuccessful. I'd get new sources, but frankly I'm not that bothered. Still exciting, isn't it though?

2354: "Tell me something. My fiancee is demanding I go to bed at 12."
Stephen, Chorlton, via text on 81111

Tell her to pipe down.

2352:Premier League out: Martin Cranie leaves Portsmouth to join Charlton on a season-long loan.

2349: "Derby turn down a £2m bid from Newcastle for Giles Barnes, but they are still in talks over a possible deal which could see Shola Ameobi head south to Pride Park."
Kiddo, Derby, via text on 81111

2348: Breaking news: Cardiff City have refused Joe Ledley permission to speak to Stoke City after the Premier League new boys bid £6m for the Welsh international midfielder. "We have informed Joe that he has no authority to speak to anybody," chairman Peter Ridsdale told BBC Sport.

2344: "Newcastle have had a bid rejected for Sheff Utd defender Matt Kilgallon. Around £2.5m."
Julian (Sheff), via text on 81111

2341: Tottenham, you have 19 minutes to replace Dimitar Berbatov - go.

2337: Still having computer problems - I cannot apologise enough. Wolves have signed George Friend from Exeter, as we exclusively revealed earlier. And no, Arsenal and Everton and Newcastle and Spurs still haven't signed anyone. But don't worry - midnight isn't the cut off point for announcements, you know.

2334: Great time for my computer to go into meltdown, with 26 minutes of the window left. For crying out loud.

2333: Apologies to everyone, especially Fraizer Campbell for misspelling his name. Can you ever forgive me?

2329: "Can confirm that the lights are definitely on at Liverpool offices, and Michael Owen deal to be announced shortly."
Tiger Roops, via text on 81111

Still going with the chat, you legends.

2327: Just a reminder for those of you who have forgotten, or just stared at a screen pressing F5 for so long you've lost the will to live: I'm here until 0100 BST tomorrow, 606 is here until 0100 BST tomorrow and you can text in on 81111 until 0100 BST tomorrow too. Lovely stuff.

2325: So, 35 minutes left. Think much'll happen?

2317: Breaking news which I told you at 2236: Hull City Chairman Paul Duffen tells BBC Radio Humberside that he expects Manchester United striker Frazier Campbell to join Spurs as part of Dimitar Berbatov deal. 'I told you so' is such a cheap phrase, don't you think?

2315: "That's me on the phone in the morning trying to get a refund on my Everton season ticket. Moyes will leave soon. Worst transfer day ever."

2312:George McCartney has told the West Ham website he handed in a transfer request because his wife Elaine didn't settle in the south-east. And I thought it was Sunderland boss Roy Keane who hammered players for deciding to go where their wives wanted?

Sunderland wrap up the signing of their former left-back George McCartney from West Ham for an undisclosed fee.

2308: Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon on Spanish television station VEO: "We have agreed to sell the player for human reasons, for footballing reasons and for an important quantity of money." So, Robinho seems certain to be on his way to Manchester City. Crikey.

2302: I'm not the only one nervous, right? Fergie must be too. And Ramos. And Hughes. Moyes, Wenger, Keegan...

2258: In the next hour, Dimitar Berbatov will join Man Utd and Robino will join Man City. Probably. You still there? Hello?

2256: BBC Radio Scotland have got a 'Through the Window' show going on right now, as I even type these words. I'd suggest if the SPL is your thing, you might want to get involved with a bit of that chat.

2255: "Don't worry Stevo, you'll get a right-back at Forest - right back to League One!"
Ben, Derby (of course), via text on 81111

Haha. See you there sunshine.

Very poor effort that.

2251: Joey Barton is staying at Newcastle. Fact.

2248: Blackpool have confirmed the loan signing of Rangers midfielder Alan Gow, for those Championship fans out there. Still no right-back at the City Ground, though...

2247: Just wondered how many beers I'm going to need tonight to recover from this - any ideas?

Hull have signed Rangers striker Daniel Cousin for an undisclosed fee. I didn't say it was interesting, did I?

2242: Not heard much of the Andrei Arshavin story for a while. He'll be gutted not to be going anywhere, the little Euro 2008 genius. Or won't he?

2239: "Eidur Gudjohnsen is going from Barcelona to the Baggies watch this space."
Baggie Boy, West Midlands, via text on 81111

2236: Breaking news which might not be true but is still awesome:Dimitar Berbatov is on his way to Manchester United. Apparently, I've heard from a source (oh come on), United have now matched Man City's bid, throwing in Frazier Campbell as part of the deal. Now that, true or not, is breaking news.

2232: "Anyone else feel Man City are funding Real Madrid's offer for Ronaldo in Jan or next summer? Hopefully reports are true that Madrid are after Villa and so will be spending Robinho's money straight off."

2229: There's a Manchester City fan in the office getting ludicrously excited about the supposed signing of Robinho. To be fair, he's usually a bit lively - he probably celebrated when they signed Darius Vassell a few years back.

2227:Everton are still hoping to clinch a late deal for Standard Liege midfielder Marouane Fellaini, for you Toffees fans who had given up. Repeat: Do not go to bed.

2222: Let's not forget that Hull City are hoping Manchester United sign Berbatov, increasing the likelihood of United accepting their bid of £7m for striker Frazier Campbell.

2218: I heard a story about Dimitar Berbatov once, that not long after he'd signed for Tottenham he told a journalist he hoped he would do really well so that he could quickly move on to a bigger club. Maybe that's why I'm not on his side for this one. Come on Spurs!

2210: So the ball is in Spurs' court now. Dimitar Berbatov and Manchester United have made their views very clear tonight, but the move cannot proceed without the go-ahead from Tottenham. If you were chairman Daniel Levy, what would you do? For the record, I'd keep him. Just for a laugh.

2208: "I am seriously dead. And have to get up at 0700 BST for work. Tell Berbatov to shift his backside."

2205: Spanish newspaper AS are saying Manchester City have agreed a fee with Real Madrid for Brazilian forward Robinho - for about £34m. Are they about to steal the step-over king from under the noses of Chelsea? Er, maybe, yeah.

Don't wait up for that one, amigo.

Carlo Nash has left Wigan Athletic to sign for Everton. Now I don't mean to be rude, but I'm guessing he's not the signing Toffees fans were hoping for?

2152: Reports flying in from left, right and centre thatDiego Armando Maradona has been sighted er, everywhere. That's probably because the great man does get around quite a lot. Watch out for a brand new feature on the BBC Sport website coming soon focusing on the legend that is El Diego.

2149: Could Emile Heskey and Michael Owen really be about to resume their partnership at Tottenham? You'll hear it here first(ish) if they do...

2145: "Stevo, I've got Sky Sports News on and I keep refreshing this page and still no transfers! Do you know any good sources?"
Sian, via text on 81111

I can't - it's too obvious isn't it? Also, forgive me for any bias for/against anyone, but am I forgiven for really hoping Berbatov doesn't get to join United tonight? It's nothing against the club, I just don't think he deserves it.

EDSKI, via text on 81111

Mate, I'd buy him like a shot if I had the money. Though I would be a bit worried about his injury record. Can't help but think by not including him and Jonathan Woodgate, Capello has made a monumental mistake.

2133: News has filtered through to us at BBC headquarters that nothing has happened for ages. Congrats to the 606 users for bashing that 10,000-mark though. At least some good has come of the last few minutes.

2122: I wonder if my legs still work...

2120: Could it really happen that Tottenham won't sign anyone, Manchester City won't sign anyone, and the only transfer left is Dimitar Berbatov to Manchester United after all? Would you bet against it? Would you?

2117: "I really hope that Daniel Levy is strong enough to tell Berbatov 'It's Man City or nothing'. Then Spurs should follow up their complaints to the Premier League. Who do United think they are?"

Former Stoke centre-back Danny Higginbotham has rejoined his old club for an undisclosed fee from Sunderland. Told you it'd get mental.

2106: "I would love to have seen Mark Hughes face when he was told: 'You have £100m in transfer funds but only 12 hours to spend it. Right. Ready. Go.'"
Brendan, Northants, via text on 81111

Well he didn't panic enough to postpone his round of golf, did he?

2104: This won't surprise you in the least, but I'm getting wind of an enormous bust-up over the signing of Tottenham's Bulgarian striker Dimitar Berbatov. It probably revolves around Manchester United taking him though a medical, even though Spurs haven't allowed United to speak to him yet. This one is about to get brutal.

2059: And Everton have apparently had a bid of about £3.5m rejected by Reading for their lively midfielder Stephen Hunt.

1917: Some good rage from Evertonians too, despite the move for Louis Saha. A lack of any other signings today, especially Joao Moutinho, has left some bluenoses apoplectic.

1913: Lots of rumours linking West Ham striker Dean Ashton with a move to Aston Villa, with fees from £10m-15m touted. Can't see it myself, but keep 'em coming.

1911: I'd quite like a transfer to happen now. Although I can see Manchester City's website updating at half past tomorrow with news of about £150m worth of new signings. Can you wait until then?

That boy can hit a football, for sure. One of the more ridiculous rumours today though, in fairness.

1907: "Admit it, that what ever you think about Man City and money in football, they have made it a fascinating last day. And isn't it nice to see Chelsea and Man U under so much pressure rather than exerting it?"
Steve, Manchester, via text on 81111

1902: Ooh, just heard a good rumour (twice) that Spurs want Middlesbrough defender David Wheater. Some dude just texted in on 81111 to say Spurs have offered £7m plus Michael Dawson, which seems a bit steep to me.

1858: Some Championship chat too - Burnley have signed striker Steven Thompson from rivals Cardiff City.

1857: Blow for Arsenal fans, with the news Switzerland international Gokhan Inler - a rumoured target for the Gunners - has signed a contract extension at Italian side Udinese.

1855: "What is it with Man City trying to hijack everyone else's transfers? Have they not got imaginations over there? I just hope the Berb doesn't get sucked into it and completes his dream move to the only real team in Manchester!"

1818: Normally I hate protracted transfers. But this Dimitar Berbatov one has really set the cat amongst the pigeons. Is he really going to sign for Man City, or will he just wait, and wait, and wait for Man Utd to agree a fee with Spurs? Dimi, take your time son. We're not going anywhere.

1815: "Why do Spurs even want Arshavin that much? He's not worth £20m at all. Maybe £10m but certainly not £20m. He played well against a mediocre Sweden team and then was outstanding against Holland. But then for the Spain game he went missing. There are no words I can add to that.

1746: "I'm trying to bash out my dissertation, but the only thing my sweaty digits are doing is refreshing your words every three mins. You is driving me bonkers. Can you tell Berbs just to sign for anybody? I've gone beyond caring. I need to get on with my life."

1740: I know you lot aren't going anywhere tonight - why would you? But just so you know, you'll be able to get involved on 606 until 0100 BST as well - special opening hours for a very, very special day.

West Brom have completed the signing on a season-long loan of AZ Alkmaar defender Ryan Donk, with a view to a permanent deal.

1735:Breaking news: BBC Sport can confirm that Real Madrid have not put in an offer for Dimitar Berbatov.

1731: Six-and-a-half hours to go until the window slams shut. But just to let you know that I'll be here until 0100 BST, just in case any late drama develops. And also because I don't ever want this day to end. You with me?

1718: "Berbatov's missus (who is well fit) has just told Bulgarian TV he wants to win the Champions League this season. This would seem to rule out City."

1713:Fact time: Manchester United have been speaking to Dimitar Berbatov. Classic United, this. They'll agree terms, get him to sign a medical and then force Spurs to accept a lower bid for him as the clock ticks towards midnight. Allegedly.

1710: Ridiculous. Manchester City's prospective new owner Dr Sulaiman Al-Fahim has revealed he has made bids for Valencia's David Villa and Stuttgart striker Mario Gomez. Can someone remind City they are not Real Madrid? Meanwhile, Madrid have not given up on Villa and appear to have entered the race for Berbatov. Best deadline day ever?

Blackburn complete the signing of hugely promising young goalkeeper Mark Bunn from League One side Northampton Town.

1644: "I hope the Berbatov to City rumours are not true. I support Spurs, my wife and all her family support City. In all our 15 years of marriage I have held the upper hand, mostly (4-3 FA Cup defeat apart) - could this be the ultimate revenge?"
Andrew, Stanmore, Middx, via text on 81111

1642: Lots of texts flying in that Berbatov is at Manchester UNITED'S Carrington training ground. Told you he wouldn't go to City (probably).

1640: It seems to me that the two general rules of a transfer deadline day are not being adhered to today. Firstly, there aren't supposed to be any massive moves - it's always such a let down in the end, isn't it? I've a feeling today will be different. And secondly, Spurs are always the club mostly in the news. Manchester City haven't read any sort of script, have they?

1637: "My mate's just rung to say he's seen Wigan's Antonio Valencia spotted getting out of a rather large mercedes at Old Trafford."
Mikey G, Manchester, via text on 81111

Funny, that a couple of days after Nemanja Vidic was misquoted as saying all people in England ever do is work, we have a day like today when surely no-one is working. Especially in Manchester - what on earth is going on there?

1636: What a day so far. Absolutely unbelievable. Berbatov to Man City? I wonder what odds you could have got on that this time yesterday? Frankly, I can't see it happening still. Man Utd will either up their bid or he'll go back to Spurs will his Bulgarian tail between his £30m legs.

Well let me settle in, won't you? Liverpool's Ukraine striker Andriy Voronin has swapped Merseyside for the Bundesliga with a season-long loan to Hertha Berlin. This is going to be electric isn't it?

1630: Fletch, you've been immense. Now go and have a long bath and a few glasses of red wine. You've earned it son. As for me, have a look at 0934. All you need to know about Stevo for the next few hours is that I'd take transfer deadline day over Christmas Day every single time. Let the carnage continue...

1629: That is me done. I feel like I am quitting something before I should, failing to see something through to the finish line. However, having just cracked the 5,000 word barrier for the shift I have to admit my fingers are feeling a little on the sore side and very much in need of some rest.

A massive contribution from you lot so far on what has been a pretty entertaining day. Judging by the 606s and texts, a fair percentage of the country must work in airports, hotels and call centres.

I'm handing over to Stevo - make sure you keep up the good work for him.

1623: No further word on Berbatov. The rumour is that he is talking to Mark Hughes. He - and City in general - very much the story of the day so far.

1615: Sleep easy kids, Reading have been whipped out of the 'OUT' section of the transfer tracker. My mind is so shaken by today's truly seismic events that I was temporarily catapulted back to late April or something.

Liverpool full-back Steve Finnan has signed for Spanish side Espanyol on a two-year deal for an undisclosed fee. We have yet to hear that Albert Riera has completed his move.

1611: Some transfer news to keep you ticking over. Blue Square Premier side Eastbourne Borough have signed Reading's 18-year-old Icelandic striker Viktor Unnar Illugason on an initial one-month loan deal.

1600: "I have just seen Klass-Jan Huntelaar at Manchester airport! City or United?"

There have been lots of references to the Ajax forward so far today on the text and 606 so I thought he was finally worth a mention. The way this crazy day is panning out, I have no idea whatsoever where he is headed. That is, of course, in the unlikely event you are telling the truth.

1551: Jon Stead has left Sheffield United, joining Championship rivals Ipswich Town.

1548: Liverpool sign their second 18-year-old of the day - Hungarian goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi. He spent last season on-loan in the reserves at Anfield and joins from MTK Hungaria.

1544: Some news from that finest of counties, Lancashire. BBC Radio Lancashire report that Preston defender Matt Hill is at Wolves having a medical as part of a swap deal for striker Stephen Elliot.

Blackburn are being linked with a possible swap deal involving defender Andre Ooijer, who may be on his way to Dutch side AZ Alkmaar with 24-year-old Australian winger Brett Holman joining Rovers.

Very droll. What is the tattoo - Berbatov's head?

1540: Absolutely nothing to report about Arsenal, assuming we are discounting all those alleged sightings of a certain Patrick Vieira.

1538: Just under an hour to go. No, not until the window closes but until I step to one side and let Jonathan Stevenson take over.

1535: Just heard from Gareth Johnson in Newcastle. He works very close to Newcastle's ground and is adamant that he has seen Michael Owen today - that would make it difficult for the striker to be at all the other myriad number of places where people claim to have seen him.

1533: A lot of texts and 606 comments are suggesting that goalkeeper Carlo Nash will be joining Everton. Not quite a £30m move but still...

1530: Speeding up. Wigan have loaned Dutch winger Rachid Bouaouzan to Eredivisie outfit NEC Nijmegen for a year. Bouaouzan joined Wigan from Sparta Rotterdam last summer but made only one appearance for the Latics.

1528: Peterborough United have completed the signing of Fulham defender Gabriel Zakuani on a one month loan.

The 22-year-old centre-back is currently away on international duty with DR Congo and will link-up with his new team-mates when he returns.

1526: WINN3RS on 606 reports that Karim Benzema has been spotted boarding an easyjet plane at Lyon airport heading for Manchester. Any obvious flaws with this story?

1523: Jon Parkin signs for Preston from Stoke on a permanent basis. He had initially joined on an emergency loan.

1521: Some news from the lower divisions. Bristol City have bought John Akinde from Ebbsfleet.

1512: Forget about Berbatov, Man City's England under 19 international Javan Vidal has joined League Two Grimsby on loan for a month.

1509: No, I'm still staggered by all this Man City business. I can only imagine how Sir Alex Ferguson feels.

1502: I'm struggling to cope on a mental level with all this Berbatov-Man City chat. I mean, did anyone see that coming? No chance. Just think about it for a second - Berbatov to Man City?

1458: Apparently the Man City bid for Berbatov is more than £30m.

1445: Stoke have had a £5m bid accepted for Cardiff's Joe Ledley, while Sunderland's Danny Higginbotham is at the Premier League new boys. Is it me or are things hotting up a bit?

1443: A little bit more Everton news - their work permit application for Nigerian winger Obinna has been rejected so he will not be signing on loan.

Louis Saha has completed his move from Man Utd to Everton after passing his medical. The striker has signed a two-year deal.

Henrik Larsson has been linked with numerous clubs today - including Everton and West Ham. But the former Celtic, Barcelona and Manchester United striker has said he has no intention of leaving Helsingborg.

1433: Oh, and Mark Hughes is out playing golf. What on earth is going on?

1430: The latest from Man City - and I have to say that they are fast becoming the club of the day. BBC Sport understands that a £30m bid has indeed been made for Dimitar Berbatov, while the club are in talks with Valencia's David Villa and Stuttgart's Mario Gomez.

Meanwhile, the latest from BBC Radio Humberside is this:

Hull City Chairman Paul Duffen has confirmed that they are trying to sign Rangers striker Daniel Cousin on loan. Meanwhile, the Tigers are still talking to Man Utd about striker Fraizer Campbell.

"As ever we're beholden to the twists and turns at other clubs," said Duffen.

"He's not our player but there's a dialogue between us and Manchester United and I still have a hope that something will be able to be done today."

He's also told the radio station that they're not going ahead with a move for Fulham striker Seol Ki-Hyeon at this stage because of various complexities such as work permits.

And there's even more. Duffen reckons Hull won't be signing West Brom defender Neil Clement as they feel they have enough defensive options with new signing Kamil Zayatte and youngster Liam Cooper.

1337: A couple of transfer lines from round and about. In the Championship - Norwich's Jason Shackell will sign for Wolves subject to medical.

And from north of the border - Hibernian have signed Souleymane Bamba on a three-year contract from Dunfermline for an undisclosed fee. Meanwhile, the former Celtic, Rangers and Hearts defender Steven Pressley has joined the Danish side Randers. The 34-year-old was released by Celtic in the summer and failed to win a contract with Championship side Doncaster after a trial with the club.

I have to say that of all the rumours flying around I do have a particular soft spot for those involving airports and hotels. I think that on some level they accurately portray the jet set and luxury aspect of the modern football world.

As for Lita, I heard that he has a soft spot for the Angel of the North and is just paying a visit to one of his favourite pieces by Antony Gormley.

By the way, for those expressing an interest, I will be doing the live text until some point late-to-mid afternoon. Then I will be leaving in the expertly capable hands of one Jonathan Stevenson. Stevo, in short.

1102: Robinho has been spotted everywhere within a one mile radius of Stamford Bridge if you believe all the texts and 606s flooding in. However, in terms of official word it is all very quite so far. Rest assured, we are keeping across this one.

1059: "I'm sitting at work in deepest darkest Buckinghamshire and haven't seen anyone doing anything - including any work!"
Kos via text on 81111

1047: Corluka has signed a six-year deal at Tottenham, who have paid £8.5m for his services.
Spurs sign Corluka from Man City

1045: "My mate owns a burger van outside Old Trafford and he's just had to remind Dean Windass and his agent that he's not open till 11. You heard it here first!"
Shaun via text on 81111

Cheeky. Very, very cheeky. Funny though.

1040: Rumours continue to fly around that Spurs could still sign Argentine striker Daniel Milito from Real Zaragoza. If I hear anything more, I'll let you know.

1037: Glad you spotted the, ahem, deliberate transfer widow mistake. I imagine that there are plenty of women out there who do feel like transfer widows on this particular day. I cannot imagine too many managers are out and about with the wife today.

1033: Expect Paul Gallagher's emergency loan move from Blackburn to Plymouth to be made a season-long loan at some point today.

1030: (See 1017) "If Robinho is wearing eight at Chelsea, what happens to Frank Lampard? SWP used to wear 24 not eight. At least make up things properly!"
Tom, Billericay, via text on 81111

Excellent point. You lot need to be well researched and diligent in your fabrications if you are to successfully pull the wool over the eyes of your fellow readers.

1024: An update from the Humber as Hull City look to boost their squad before the window shuts.

Apparently the Tigers are still waiting on Frazier Campbell. A deal has been agreed with Man Utd but it all hinges on Berbatov moving to Old Trafford. But that may well happen given that Tottenham have signed Pavlyuchenko. It gets complicated doesn't it.

The club also has a bid in for Fulham striker Seol Ki-Hyeon - this has been confirmed by Hull Chairman Paul Duffen.

BBC Radio Humberside also understand the club are interested in Rangers striker Daniel Cousin but there has been no official confirmation.

1021: Not strictly related to the transfer of players, but there are strong reports suggesting that there has been a takeover at Man City, with the Abu Dhabi United Group for Development and Investment splashing the cash. No more Shinawatra, it seems.

1017: "I work in the shirt sales at Stamford Bridge. I was told this morning to prepare Robinho shirts with number eight. Shaun Wright-Phillips had the old one."
Steve, via text on 81111

1011: Transfer deadline day - lots of excitement, rumour and speculation. But what impact does the transfer window have on the lower divisions, where money is tight and squads are small? In a shameless piece of self promotion, feel free to read the blog I wrote about it.

Transfer window not working

1009: "My mate Phil is a Cabbie in Liverpool City Centre and a season ticket holder at Anfield. He has it on very strong word that Rafa Benitez will sign a cut price Michael Owen as cover for the injured Fernando Torres. Welcome back to the prodigal Son."
Gavin, Ellesmere Port, via text on 81111

I was wondering when a cabbie would crop up. Transfer deadline day literally would not work without them. Literally.

1002: Less than 14 hours to go. You can almost reach out and feel the excitement. Xisco to Newcastle. Texts and 606s reporting that he shares his name with some kind of singer. News to me.

0957: It has been confirmed - Vedran Corluka is a Tottenham player. I reckon Spurs are going to be the club of the transfer deadline - and well done to the man who texted in before informing us that Corluka had thrown his City shirt into the crowd after their win at Sunderland. Always a key sign that one.

Tottenham have agreed a deal to sign Croatia defender Vedran Corluka from Man City.

0950: I have just been scanning through the various texts and 606s that have been flooding in. Lots of cracking airport chat, I have just finished my post round and seen Michael Owen, my mate has just seen Berbatov in Manchester etc However, I have to say there are an incredible amount of people claiming to have spotted Alan Smith in Liverpool, the train of thought being that he is on his way to Everton.

0941: Here is one move that is likely to happen - the amazingly named Ryan Donk will be joining West Brom on loan from AZ Alkmaar.

Donk is a central defender and can I just reiterate that he has an amazing name.

0934: "I love deadline day, it's almost like Christmas, though if I get Albert Riera for Christmas I'd better get a receipt as well so I can take him back in January."

Love it. Liverpool are set to complete their deal for the Espanyol wide man today. I guess all you Reds out there had just better trust that Rafa the Gaffer knows what he is doing. Like bringing on Ngog and not Babel when Torres limps off injured at Villa Park.

0931: One potential move that has caught my eye is full-back Tyrone Mears moving from Derby to Marseille. I have seen Mears play time and again. Lots of ability yet lacking a certain something, perhaps positional sense. Would love to see how he goes on in France.

0926: "Hi Paul, I am currently working in Madrid. Guess who I just saw?! Yes, that's right. Ronaldo! Walking past with a couple of young others, please explain! A s a die hard Man Utd fan my love for him is turning!"
Ed, in the sun, via text on 81111

Lovely touch. A key element of the fabricated transfer deadline day story is to establish credibility. Ed, I feel, has done this quite effectively by pointing that he works in Madrid and thus has genuine reason to be in the Spanish capital. As for the rest of his tale...

0925: "I predict that journalists and fans across the country will be getting bored and edgy abut the lack of action by about 13:00, really quite concerned by 16:30, and then it'll start getting interesting after the majority of us have gone home at about 18:30."

Hmm. This qualifies as an interesting variation on the so and so spotted at such and such a place theme. Talking of which...

"Just seen Kaka on the number 52 bus in Salford, which goes to Old Trafford. Is it more than just a coincidence?"
Anonymous via text on 81111

I have never previously heard mistaken identity, or simply good old fabrication, described as coincidence.

0919: News from Europe - Inter Milan have agreed a deal with Porto for Ricardo Quaresma. Inter boss Jose Mourinho has been a fan of his for some time.

0917: An interesting one from the lower divisions. Rotherham United have signed former Athletic Bilbao forward Omar Garcia on a one-year contract.

The 24-year-old Spaniard has joined the Millers as a free agent, after he impressed during a trial period. Wonder what he'll make of south Yorkshire. Rotherham is south Yorkshire isn't it?

0915: No word yet from Stamford Bridge but one of the potential moves we will be keeping an eye on is whether or not Chelsea manage to sign Robinho from Real Madrid. Today, after all, is the day when all the months of rumour and speculation must come to an end one way or the other.

0910: If you want an early and easily digestible round-up of some of the rumours kicking about in the papers today then check out the gossip column.

0905: "All I'm looking for today is some big money moves and a shock or two. If Tranmere could sign a player or two I'd be delighted."
Josh, Brighton (a Tranmere fan), via text on 81111

I think we would all love it if the men from Prenton Park could boost their squad. And a transfer shock, a move totally out of the blue - we all love those, don't we?

0903: One man not on the move is Rangers striker Alan Gow. He has rejected a £250,000 move to Blackpool. No illuminations for him then.

0902: Some rumours hot off the press, or more appropriately fresh out of the mill. Deportivo La Coruna, who beat Real Madrid on Sunday, apparently reckon Newcastle have agreed a £5.7m deal for striker Xisco. Know anything about it?

0900: News from our colleagues in Wales. They have it on good authority that Alexei Smertin will be leaving Fulham for Cardiff on a season-long loan subject to securing a work permit. Happy with that?

0858: Now then. I'm expecting a busy old day - though whether most of the deals will start to fall in place later in the day I'm not sure.

The aim is to keep you bang up to date with all the Premier League transfer news but don't think for even a split second that I'll be covering every single transfer from the Football League. My fingers just don't move that fast. However, rest assured that I'll be mentioning as many as possible, while a full list can be found on the BBC website.

0845: One deal that has been done - no question about this one - is Roman Pavlyuchenko's transfer to Tottenham from Spartak Moscow, at a cost of £14m. I wonder whether this will free up Dimitar Berbatov for his move to Manchester United?
Spurs seal £14m Pavlyuchenko deal

0830 BST: So here we are once again. Transfer deadline day. One of the most exciting days of the year or one of the most unnecessary? Maybe that is a debate for another time.

The focus today is firmly on who is on the move. Doubtless plenty of top-draw footballers - and plenty of modest ones as well - will be spotted at various airports, hotels, training grounds and other assorted places of business as the rumour mill goes into overdrive. If you do see anyone, be sure to tell us.
