Beckham's England - Last shot at silverware
David Beckham sits out England's defeat to Portugal

June - July 2006

England made it to the 2006 World Cup finals but, after stumbling through the group, they need a Beckham free-kick to help them reach the last eight.

The goals means Becks becomes the first English player to score in three World Cups.

But the hopes of England and Beckham are shattered once more by Portugal. He picks up an ankle injury just before half-time of their quarter-final and can only watch as his side go out on penalties.
