Beckham's dream of lifting the World Cup falls apart against 10-man Brazil, who bounce back from a goal down in Japan to win 2-1 in the quarter-finals.

A pumped-up Beckham had earlier exacted his revenge on Argentina by dumping England's group rivals out of the competition with a winner from the penalty spot.

That Beckham made it to the finals at all was a minor miracle after breaking a metatarsal just weeks before the tournament started.
